Grading Night – The first official grading night for Tashu Shotowa will be held on Friday, May 30th at 7:00 pm.  Sensei Andy and Sensei Bill will be compiling a list of students they feel are ready to advance to the next belt level and will inform you soon.  The cost of the grading is $50 and is open to spectators.

Women’s Self-Defense Seminar – Sunday, June 1st Tashu Shotowa will be offering the first in a series of Women’s Self-Defense seminars with Constable Chris Chin of the West Vancouver Police Department.  Chris is a Black Belt member of Tashu Shotowa.  Prior to joining the police force, Chris was an action stunt performer for the film industry.  He will be assisted in the seminar by another Tashu Shotowa Black Belt Sensei Cheryl Uphill.  Cost of the seminar will be $50 for non-members and $30 for members.  The seminar will run from 1:00pm to 3:30pm.  A ticket to this event could make the perfect Mother’s Day gift.

Demonstration – Tashu Shotowa will be performing its first public demonstration at the New West Multi-Cultural Festival on Saturday, May 17th.  This event helps kick off this year’s Hyack festival and will be held at the New West Quay.  The schedule has not been finalized at this time but the demonstration will be sometime in the afternoon.  We will let you know when the exact time is announced.  Tashu Shotowa will also have a booth set up for the duration of the event so plan on coming down for a visit.

Tigerbalm Internationals – Congratulations to Sensei Anthony Moyer for winning the Grand Championship in Men’s Black Belt Kumite at the recent Tigerbalm Internationals Martial Arts competition.  Moyer battled through 9 matches to take the title.  His final and closest match was against another Tashu Shotowa Black Belt, Harpal Chandi. 

Island Open – Congratulations to Sensei Randy Hanlon for winning the Grand Championship in Men’s Black Belt Kumite at the recent Island Open Martial Arts Championship.  Randy dominated the competition until the last match which was a tight battle with Harpal Chandi but Randy emerged victorious.  

Battle at the Rock Martial Arts Championships –Many of our students and Black Belts will be involved in this exciting event on Saturday, April 26th.  The event is open to spectators and you will find it both entertaining and informative to see various styles and schools in action.  The tournament will be held at Earl Marriott Secondary School in South Surrey.  Competition begins at 10:00am.

No Classes – Due to the tournament there will be no Sparring Class on Saturday, April 26th.
